The 6UG/1600 is an 8 channel VME card, with
programmable gain and cut-off frequency. It includes many detail features
which make system integration easy, these we have learnt during the 30 plus
years we have been making multi -channel filter systems. The 6UG/1600 is a
'dumb' VME card, it takes only +5V power from the VME chassis, control is via
RS232 interface operating Kemo's high level text based FICL
control language. Gain, filter cut-off, input coupling, 'bypass' and 'input
grounding' can all be individually programmed for each channel.

Programmable Frequency and Gain
The 6UG/1600 uses Kemo's 1600 Series Filter Modules, offering exceptional analogue performance in a small volume. Each 1600 filter
module can be programmed over a 255:1 range,1792:1 for the 1600W
filter modules. Cut-off frequencies from 0.2 Hz to 255 kHz are available as
standard, with others available to special order. Please contact us with your
requirements.
The filter modules plug into the 6UG/1600 card, so should you wish to change
filter response or frequency in the future this is easily done.
The 6UG/1600 has 3 programmable gain ranges,
| Gain Range |
Gain Steps |
| 0.25 - 7.75 (-12 to 17.7dB) |
32 steps of x0.25 |
| 5 - 80 (14 to 38 dB) |
16 steps of x 5 |
| 50 - 800 (34 to 58 dB) |
16 steps of x 50 |
Fixed Frequency
For fixed frequency applications we can fit the
Kemo 1200 series filter modules to the 6UG/1600
cards. This gives a card with fixed frequency filtering, and all the other
programmable controls, including gain. Frequencies can be specified between
0.1 Hz to >255 kHz.

Filter Responses
Most standard Kemo filter responses can be supplied fitted to the 6UG/1600.
For anti-aliasing applications, Response
01 with flat passband and 135dB/octave slope is recommended.
For general purpose applications, Response
41 with flat passband and linear phase is recommended.
Traditional Butterworth and Bessel responses are available.
More information on Filter responses can be found here.
Inputs and Outputs
Signal input and output are industry standard 25 way D-type connectors, the pinouts
are arranged logically to make wiring input and output easy. The 6UG/1600 has differential input, single ended input is easy to set by wiring the 'negative
signal' differential input to the signal zero volts.
AC / DC input coupling is computer controlled. The signal input to each channel
can be programmed to 'ground', for noise reduction.
A fixed, (not computer controlled) 4 mA 24 Volt IEPE transducer supply can be
hard wired to the 6UG/1600, Please contact us for details if required.
If required input and output cables can be mated directly together for system
testing. 1 - 128 Channels per system
A system may be from one filter
module fitted to one card, through to 128 channels all controlled by a single
interface. Expansion beyond 8 channels is achieved with up to 15 extra 'slave' cards. These are controlled
by low-speed (reduced digital noise) control signals, the connectors are wired so that a card may be removed from the
system while still allowing the others to be controlled.
FICL - The Easy Interface
6UG cards
are controlled by RS232 interface, using the Kemo FICL
text based control language, or a supplied Windows driver.
FICL is a text based command set, very easy
to understand and program, the filter settings can be controlled by
any device with an RS232 interface. Some of our customers use PDA's
to control their filters.
Programming is also very easy using the FICL commands. e.g.:
FREQ 1,500
Sets filter channel 1 to 500 Hz.
The Kemo Windows driver for the 6UG cards has features to aid the
traceability of the measurement settings.
Once a set of commands are set to the 6UG cards, the driver then
interrogates each channel of the 6UG cards, and saves the results as a
text file. This gives a record of the actual filter settings,
these files can be stored and used as part of a measurement control
system.
A typical screen is shown to the left.
A table is created and then sent to the 6UG card, channels 2 and 3
have data to send, channels 5 and 6 have been sent data, which the
driver corrected to suit the available filter settings, all other
channels are set. |

Precision
Manufacture
6UG/1600 cards are
manufactured using high precision tried and trusted components. We use a
gold plated multi-layer circuit board to reduce noise, and surface mount
technology to ensure reliability and long life.
