Why have
a Rita system monitoring a generator?
Studies
have shown that even harmonics present within the rotor are an early indication
of shorts within the rotor windings. Rita detects these harmonics online
continuously.
How does
Rita work?
Input
signals are fed from a set of air gap search coils or Rogowski coils within
the generator. Rita has a range of gain and input settings to match the
signals from the rotor. Rita then accurately measures the even harmonics
within a generator or rotating electrical unit.
Who Developed
Rita?
Rita
was developed by Kemo as the result of extensive research into rotor faults
by the Central Electricity Generating Board (CEGB) and National Power
in the UK. A number of systems have been in continuous use for several
years.
